Angel Fish

I was working on an Angel Fish painting slowly over a few evenings.

I came to look at it the next evening and found this next to it.

My wife had drawn a picture of herself in pencil next to it! I thought it was cute and watercolored it in.

Here's an idea of what my pages looked like filled in.

It's Friday!!!

Monday Artday

I posted this over at Monday Artday. Wasn't feeling very inspired these past few days, but Monday Artday saved the day. One of their themes was, "Horse with hands riding a bike." This is what came to mind for me.

V-Day...

I got my wife flowers for V-Day, but I also said I would get our buffalo painting, that we bought while on our honeymoon two years ago, framed. It is a big painting so we had been putting it off for a while. I gave her this card, along with a note written at the bottom, as a way of telling her.

Here is my second visual journal from last week that I finished late today. If you haven't gone to Red Robin before you have to go. We had a ten dollar gift card, but then they were out of the garden burgers we both wanted, so the manager gave us a $15 gift card. We didn't even put up a stink to try and get it, she just gave it to us. It was awesome!

Camping continued...

Another tale from our camping trip a while back at Kohler-Andrae.

I know the text is a little hard to follow, but I wasn't sure how else to get around it. It's meant to go from one side to the other after each bubble.

I don't know if he really proposed to her, but they were definitely making out and groping each other right outside the pit toilet door. As we sat a the camp fire this didn't happen just once, but about three times over that evening. Each time they would go to the bathroom, meet up afterward outside the women's bathroom and play tonsil hockey for about five minutes. If you've ever stood within six feet of a pit toilet you'll understand why this is so gross.

The following strip is from our adventures just the other day. Check out my wife's blog for some pictures of the rot.

Two years!!!

My wife and I just had our two year wedding anniversary! We went up to Peninsula State Park for some camping on Thursday and just got back today (Sunday). I only had a little time to draw while sitting at the beach.

S'mores were of course involved and the great debate of how to cook your marshmallow took place for the hundredth time.

While missing our cats we made a new friend, "Steve." I'm sure his diet consists of just campers' food because he was a friendly chipmunk. He enjoyed strawberries, cheese, and popcorn, but Cheetos were his favorite.

Chin: The Spider-Noticerer...

Our cat, Chin, can spot spiders on our ceiling. She will sit and meow loudly at it until one of us comes in the room. She's noticed so many it's gotten to the point that whenever we see her staring at the ceiling we look up paranoid there's a spider. About half the time there actually is.

She did this last night and noticed a particularly huge and disgusting one. I think she was especially loud because it was so enormous. It was promptly caught and squished outside. Thanks, Chin.

Another weekend, come and gone...

This will be for my visual journal. I drew this Friday night as my wife and I enjoyed a relaxing evening in, watching T.V. Often she'll sit on the couch, with her computer, as we're watching. I'm so use to drawing from pictures, but I drew this one as we were both sitting. I'm done inking, but will still watercolor.

A work in progress. Still going to try layering, especially on the gorilla to see how dark I can get. Will also ink the gorilla a bit once I'm done watercoloring.

Hector's...

I'm still playing around with mixing watercolor and pen. I like the direction it's going, but I've still got some tweaking. I've got to make my watercolor darker and give some more contrast between the lights and darks. Everything is just on the light end right now. This was a fun page though. Believe it or not I spent a few days on it and reworked the watercolor a bunch. It's just going to take some more.

Another sketchbook down...

Still behind on water coloring, but the illustration and writing part I'm caught up on.

I managed to finish another sketchbook! That's two since I started doing the blog nine months ago. I never got through that many that quickly whenI was drawing in college. I've improved so much more too. Not just copying other peoples' work. I'm creating my own now!

Here are a couple of my favorite pages from the sketchbook. Thanks for sticking along for the ride.

I'm enjoying these journal entries, but I'm going to throw a party once this book is done.

Gorilla me...

Christine: You should have drawn the kids as kittens.
Me: But kittens aren't kittenly. Squirrels are squirrelly.
Christine: Groan.

Chin, on the rise...

Water coloring is not done yet. The first day of school is tomorrow and my School Year Resolution is to get more sleep. I have to have my head on the pillow by midnight, so I'm making myself go up by 11:00. Not sure how I can waste so much time in the evening, but it happens. Watercolor tomorrow.
