Bad Day

Oct. 9th was a bad day. If a parent gets sick they are not allowed into the NICU. So, that day I did not get to see the boys.

Chris had a bad day, but he's doing much better. He's still at the NICU and making great progress.

Isolette (9-24-2011)

Chris and Mason had to spend the first few weeks of their life living in a controlled environment called an isolette. Like the words hints towards, they are isolated. We could only touch them by putting our hands through the holes on the sides.

My wife said it reminded her of the movie, Dumbo, where the mother could only touch Dumbo through the bars of her cage. We talked often about how the scene was so much more emotional for us now that we could really identify with Dumbo's mom. Maybe an odd connection, but it made us sad every time we thought about it.

Here is a rough drawing I did of Chris' isolette while in the NICU.

Mason and Chris

My sons were born on 9-10-11 at 28 weeks, 6 days. The both weighed less than three pounds, but they are fighters and now weigh 6 1/2 pounds. My wife and I were and still are very scared for them. We love them very much.

Here's baby A, Mason Oscar

Here's baby B, Christopher Michael

Test

Where have I been? Taking care of my two sons!

I drew this on 9-8-11, two days before my sons were born.

More of the story to come when time permits.

Twins

My mom's was actually chocolate cake with a mocha icing.

Not quite sure how the Beetlejuice sand worm reminded my wife of her pillow, but it did.

Summer's End

It is amazing how much stuff people can accumulate. Garage saling is fun to me because of all the great deals you can get on things, but the other part is just seeing all the stuff people collect. Garage sales can be fun even if you don't see something you want to buy.

The first garage sale we went to had so much HO train stuff. Probably 200 cars and 30 locomotives. I held myself back and just got a locomotive and a few cars, all The Milwaukee Road. It'll be great for Christmas this year!

UFC 134 @ Rio tonight! Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami among other great battles!

At a family members going away party...

We were driving to the grocery store when we started seeing the signs.

It was a great day!

Turkeys?

8-21-2011
While still living at my parents' house.

8-13-2011 and 8-16-2011
Moved into our new home finally!

Thirty turkeys followed by a guy on a four wheeler, all directly out your bedroom windows, isn't something you see everyday. It all happened within about two minutes of each other which made it especially strange.

Sum up...

8-7-2011

Viability Day means that it could be possible for the twins to survive if there was an emergency and Amanda had to have the babies now. Hopefully they'll stay in there as long as possible (early Nov.), but time will tell.

We've moved!

After having sold and packed our house, living with my parents for a week and a half, moving into our new home, and living without internet for a week, we have settled in. Whew!

I didn't journal everyday, but I'll post a few a day and get caught up. Sadly, no watercolors.

More Packing

This was the only fun part of packing yesterday. Can't believe we aren't done yet.

All is well...

My wife was having some pain near her hip/stomach area and couldn't straighten up to walk normally or even move her right leg without excruciating pain. We know she has two kidney stones and we were worried they might be on the move and causing her pain. The wait at the first hospital was horrible. It was jam packed and not one person was called back while we were there for that hour. Meanwhile people are throwing up next to us, listening to horrible music on their phones, without headphones, so everyone one in the room has to hear it. It was awful. We said, "Screw it." and drove 20 minutes to a different hospital in the burbs and we were seen immediately. It was bizarre.

Turns out the pain was not from kidney stones, but more than likely a pulled/strained muscle that runs from her leg, through her abdomen and connects to the top of her pelvis. She's doing much better today and able to walk around kind of normal again.

Our realtor is an interesting woman. It's hard to tell from the drawing, but we were all in the same room at the time. She heard the home inspector say he was going to test it and she still screamed at the top of her lungs when it went off.

The main reason we didn't go garage saling is because it rained yesterday morning. We got a lot done though.

Summer's Great!

My wife is obsessed with Sesame Street and The Muppets. We rented the first disc of Sesame Street: 40 Years of Sunny Days, using Netflix. I guess I didn't realize there was a difference between Sesame Street and The Muppets. I just thought they were the same thing, so my wife educated me. My favorite skit was "Oklahoma." I can't wait to watch this stuff with our twins, but I know Amanda is looking forward to it even more than I am.

At the Pool

We put the offer in on the house!
And we eventually came to an agreement on the house price. We know where we're moving now!

I don't know what was wrong with the umbrella. I think it was broken. Couldn't have been me...

Stress...

I haven't drawn much in the past two weeks because I've been so stressed out. I didn't know how to illustrate this stressful feeling until I was walking in between our house and the neighbors and I nearly got ran over by a bunch of birds zooming down the driveway.

Why the stress? We negotiated the sale of our house! Great news, but my wife it pregnant with twins and I'm not sure where we are moving to next!

Last Four Days...

Amanda was putting on her hoody in the car and some how got the hood caught across the front of her face. It was quite entertaining.
