Artistically frustrated...

Today was a good day. Was a little bummed after trying to work with brush and ink the other day. Decided I need to get over it and just draw whatever I wanted. I feel much better now.

Random scribbles while at Alterra with my wife and friend, Jason during our open house. I made a rare impulse buy at Barnes and Noble a few days ago and bought Street Sketch Book. It's one of the best buys I've made and I was looking through it for inspiration as I drew. Tried playing around with textures a little too.

  1. Ben, I'm so glad to have "discovered" your blog... I love your scribbles! It's so fun to see an artist's work in whatever form. Did you study art in college?

I completely understand your frustration trying new things. I tried a dip pen (several different nibs) because I love the difference in line strokes, but I couldn't get the hang of it. I don't know if it's the pen or my awful technique. I also tried a brush pen (Sam Spina uses one, and recommended it) but man, I couldn't do that either! So back to the rapidograph for me. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experiments and thoughts... Great spine by the way!!! Sorry for rambling!

  2. I studied art in college for about a year and a half before switching into Elem. Ed. I'm glad I made the switch, but it would have been nice to learn some more technique and types of media.
